NCSD, Celebrating the Arts for over 12 years, K-12
|
The North Carolina School for the Deaf’s’ Art Program was re-established in the spring of 1995 after a 15 year void of the arts. The program started with 1 teacher and $600 from Volunteer Services for grades K-12 . Thanks to Dr. Iverson Riddle, in 1998, another Art Instructor was added. This gave our students an opportunity for a more in-depth study; allowing each student to grow up with the arts. In 1999, the High School Art program out grew the Hoey High School Art Classroom and moved into Rondthaler. Room by room the building was transformed into an awesome building for the arts, allowing its curriculum and course offerings to grow. NCSD now offers its students a multitude of classes; Art 1, 2, 3, 4, Ceramics 1, 2, Photography 1, 2, Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture, Crafts and an Arts Pathway. The Art Department K-12, would not be a success today without the support from the Wonderful Staff at NCSD, the Community of Burke County, which has supported us from the beginning, and the State of North Carolina ; for recognizing Art as a Core component to our visual children’s education! Thank you to all, for everything you have done to support our program! Kimberly LM Toth-Lajzer
