For students with established eligibility for special education services in North Carolina, placement discussions and team decisions are made at least annually at the Individualized Education Program (IEP) review. Parents, teachers, and professionals are able to refer students for consideration of placement at the North Carolina School for the Deaf at any time by requesting an IEP meeting. A review of existing data is recommended when considering a placement change.
Students new to North Carolina, moving from out-of-state, will need initial eligibility established for special education services through their Local Education Agency (LEA) via the county or city school system.
We encourage all families and school staff to tour our campus and learn more about our people and programs, prior to enrolling their child/student. The NC School for the Deaf enrolls students throughout the school year.
