Child Nutrition

To ensure students from the North Carolina School for the Deaf (NCSD) have access to nutritious meals, while learning off campus, our Child Nutrition Department will be packaging frozen meals that you can prepare at home. All meals meet the requirements of the National School Breakfast and Lunch programs and will contain safe food handling and cooking instructions. Each Sunday you will have the option to pick up breakfast and lunch for the week, along with your educational materials, at the usual bus stop location.

We look forward to this opportunity to serve our students and families, but we need your commitment to make this successful.  Please contact us for more information on how you can take advantage of this free meal opportunity. A sample menu can be provided upon request.

Thank you,

NCSD's Child Nutrition Department follows strict USDA guidelines in order to provide nutritious meals to all students. Our menus are planned and prepared by following all National School Breakfast and National School Lunch standards.

The Child Nutrition Department actively participates in educating students on healthy eating habits by hosting cooking demonstrations such as this with the Pro Start class.  Students prepared their own Crispy Chicken Salad by following a step by step recipe. Each of them was given a copy of the recipe which included nutritional information and a bottle of low calorie salad dressing to share with their family.
During Deaf Awareness Week September 2020, Child Nutrition Staff provided cupcakes, icing, and sprinkles for all students. We encouraged them to be creative when decorating and post pictures of the finished product on the schools FB page. It was exciting to see their unique creations!
