03 - Academic Department » Welcome

The academics program at NCSD serves grades PreK-12. NCSD is accredited by  CEASD (Council of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf) and SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools). NCSD is governed by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) and follows the Core Curriculum to provide the best possible education for all students K-12. All teachers are certified in their content area to teach Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf students with (concomitant challenges) other disabilities. Teachers are fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and able to communicate directly with their students. An auditory-verbal teacher works with students to improve the use of their residual hearing.

The North Carolina School for the Deaf is a day and residential program for students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing (D/HH), situated in the beautiful foothills of North Carolina.  NCSD holds dual accreditations from the Council of Educational Administrators for Schools and Programs for the Deaf (CEASD) and Advanced Education. Boasting a rich history, honoring tradition and culture, NCSD is moving ever-forward to improve educational attainment and postsecondary outcomes for its 21st century learners, ensuring they are able to compete and succeed in a global marketplace.
