Superintendent's Message

Hello, and welcome to the North Carolina School for the Deaf.

I’m Dr. Kristin Todd Gunter, and it is my true honor to serve as the Superintendent of this extraordinary school.

NCSD is not just a school. We build community.

Here, Deaf and Hard of Hearing students are supported, challenged, and celebrated.

Here, we focus on language—ASL and English in parallel—because language bridges learning, connection, identity, and possibility.

Our students learn, lead, create, compete, and discover who they are and who they can become.

We honor our more than 130-year history in Deaf education with pride as we build together what comes next.
And, most importantly, we believe deeply in our students and their incredible potential.

Whether you are a family looking for the right place for your child, an educator or professional seeking partnership, a proud NCSD alum, or someone simply wanting to understand more about our school community, there is a place for you here.

Welcome to NCSD.
